FILCH'S CUCUMBER SANDWICH🥒
Goodday my fellow Witches and Wizards!
I am writing this caption with the soundtrack: Room of Requirements on the background to give me all the feels. So this photo and recipe is dedicated to the ugliest squib and of course caretaker of Hogwarts. Did you know that the name Argus means a thousand eyes?! How insane is that. I know he hates children and I think people just in general. Bitter because he can't do magic. And loves to punish.
But above all in the movies I found him hilarious. He has barely any lines but his facial expressions and body language is more than enough to crack me up. Especially during the scene that he waits to caught the students on the act, coming out of the Room of Requirements. He is waiting with a sandwich, even falls asleep while eating btw 🤣 and this is my version. In the movies you cannot really see what is on there but when he took a bite it was crispy sounding so I made a wonderful version of a British classic: The cucumber sandwich. Mine has a cucumber-mayo spread with dried mint, garlic and lemon zest. Thin cucumber and avocado slices, butter lettuce, chives, alfa alfa sprouts and white sourdough bread.
So easy but incredibly satisfying and tasty! So fresh and light. Some other details: in the photo you can see some proglamations, he hang them up by force whaha. Magical Keys because he is the caretaker, his goblet for tea, filthy lantern, fake fur to represent his love for cats. And especially Mrs.Norris of course.
This sandwich is:
- Vegan
- Light and easy lunch
- British classic
For one hungry squib:
🥒 2 slices of sourdough bread
🥒 5 round slices of cucumber and 6 long + thin slythers
🥒 2 tbsp of grated cucumber
🥒 2 tbsp vegan mayo
🥒 1 tsp of lemon zest
🥒 1 garlic clove
🥒 0,5 tsp dried mint
🥒 2 big butter lettuce leaves
🥒 half a avocado
🥒 salt and pepper
🥒 1 tsp of fresh chives
🥒 1 tsp of cress
Magical method:
First go to your favorite local bakery or farmers market and buy the best sourdough bread you can find.
Then grate the first chunk of cucumber. Use a box grater and put a clean tea towel under it. Squeeze out the excess water from the cucumber and put the cucumber in a bowl. Add the vegan mayo (you can use plantbased yoghurt instead), the dried mint, garlic, lemon zest and season with salt and pepper.
Mix until combined and set aside. Cut the other pieces of cucumber. And make the slythers with a veggie peeler. Season a little with salt an pepper, you don't want a bland sandwich. Peel, destone and slice a half of an avocado.
Now you can build the sandwich. First smear the cucumber mayo on both side of the sandwich. On one half you add the lettuce and fresh herbs. And on the other half the cucumber and avocado. Put one and two together and you have a wonderful sandwich!
Witchy tips:
For some variation add some:
- Vegan chicken slices
- Vegan crispy bacon
- Vegan cheese slices
